Here we are adding additional insulation for sound proofing. She
insulated all the pipes, between the floors and the walls around the whirlpool so she can
take a bath and no-one downstairs can hear.
It worked!
Some good friends brought dinner over to help us celebrate
our first meal in the house. The in-laws lent a hand to wire the
house.
My son Brian tried to help. Here you see the sound
strips we installed before we added the sheetrock. The sound strips
are to separate the sheetrock from the studs to reduce the transmission of
noise and vibration. It does help but I am not yet convinced it was
worth all the trouble and cost.
Biana helped us with the sound strips, cable, phone and
Ethernet wiring during Christmas break. We have 14 Ethernet drops
and 9 phone and cable drops to make sure the home is wired for the
future.
The utility room was insulated as well so with the door
closed you would not hear the washer or dryer going. We also
insulated around all bathrooms.
As you may have
gathered by now we desire a quiet home.
We insulated between the boy's rooms so when the reach the
teen age stage and start to play the music loud we can close the door and
keep the house quiet. Again it helps make for a noticeably quieter
home. This is something that you can not get in a typical home which
is one reason we preferred to build it ourselves.
Brain says that building a house is exhausting work.
We have to agree as we all spent many long hours there. Fortunately
the new house was only 2 miles from the old one.
