We attempted to make our se
cond home even more energy
efficient than our first one. We again used a passive solar approach but
since we had a flat lot we did not earth berm. The ICF's give much of the
benefit of earth berming. The
house is well insulated by a combination of ICF's (Insulating Concrete Forms) and SIP's
(Structural Insulated Panels).
Unfortunately with a larger home and two sons who rarely turn off lights this
house uses more energy than the first. But for it's size we still use only
half the energy of our neighbors.
